Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

Responsibilities:
* Prepares and administers anesthetic agents to patients to desensitize them to permit the performance of medical or surgical procedures.
* Performs pre-anesthesia evaluation of the patient to ascertain physiological and psychological factors that influence the selection of the anesthetic agent and the formulation of the plan of anesthetic management.
* Monitors the patient in the operating room to maintain the patient in a homeostatic condition and to assure that unnecessary injuries are not inflicted on the patient.
* Records anesthetic information on the anesthesia chart to provide a permanent record necessary for the care of the patient, to provide material for teaching, for study, and to establish a medical-legal record.
* Provides clinical supervision or guidance of nurse anesthesia students, paramedical, and medical students to contribute to their clinical training.
* Responds to emergencies.
