Job Description
The Coding Specialist reports to the Manager of Coding and Data Quality and supports the organization’s new and growing clinical coding team with accurate and timely abstraction and coding of inpatient (DAD) and ED/Outpatient (NACRS) health information. Key components of the role include assigning ICD‑10 diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with CIHI coding standards and hospital guidelines, ensuring timely CIHI submission, staying current with coding best practices, executing tasks assigned through coding improvement initiatives, monitoring CIHI monthly and quarterly submission error reports to correct and resubmit abstracts, actively participating in coding improvement initiatives directed by Mackenzie Health and the ministry (CIHI), and responding to coding‑related inquiries. Superb attention to detail is imperative to this role.
