General Work Description

A Deputy Sheriff (Bailiff) must be at least 20 years of age and complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training Class (B. L. E. T.) and obtain a B. L. E. T. Certificate.

Make arrests, including forcibly when necessary. Use handcuffs and other restraints and self‑defense weapons. Prepare investigative reports with proper grammar. Operate a law‑enforcement vehicle day and night in emergency situations. Communicate effectively on law‑enforcement radio channels. Load, unload, and fire handguns and shotguns under stress that justifies the use of deadly force. Mediate disputes and advise citizens of rights and processes. Process, transport, and interrogate prisoners and committed mental patients. Read and comprehend legal documents, including citations, affidavits, and warrants.
