Unit Summary
The Hamilton General Drugstore is an accredited retail pharmacy located in the main lobby of the Hamilton General Hospital. The drugstore workload resembles that of a fast-paced community pharmacy with an emphasis on a high level of service including patient counseling and other professional services, extemporaneous compounding, investigational drug dispensing and specialty home health sales.
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician's primary function in the hospital retail setting is to accurately process prescriptions, including all technical aspects such as computer entry, adjudication, product preparation, dispensing and final product checking/ verification. The Pharmacy Technician works in a collaborative model with pharmacists to enable the pharmacist to focus on professional service activities.
