Job Description

Research Scientist, Doctoral Researcher – Role of Anaerobic Microbes on Old Carbon Degradation in Deep Peat

The project is a four‑year funded by the Academy of Finland and offers international collaboration and a chance to develop a scientific career.

Peatlands store vast amounts of carbon. Warming temperatures may cause this carbon to escape. This role focuses on how anaerobic microbes facilitated by fermentation and acetogenesis degrade ancient carbon in deep peat layers, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.

Responsibilities

• Intensive laboratory and field work in Luke; laboratory techniques: gas and liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, spectrophotometry, incubation studies, cultivation of microbes, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, etc.

• Field sampling in peatlands.

• Participation in a planned 4‑month research visit to Monash University, Australia.

Qualifications

  • MSc or equivalent in microbiology, ...
