RN - ICU
This position is for an RN specializing in the Intensive Care Unit. The facility has 637 licensed beds and a Level 1 Trauma designation. It is a teaching hospital equipped as a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center. The unit has 14 beds and a current census of 14 patients. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleeding, DKA, hypotension, hypertension, stroke, pneumonia, cancer, ARDS, and overdoses. The unit cares for chronic ventilator and chronic trach patients. The patient population includes hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring and close observation. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:1-2, with the possibility of 3 in rare cases. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) assist with patient care duties. Nurse responsibilities include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and managing various infusions. Nurses will monitor and manage invasive lines like arterial and central venous catheters.
