A Brief Overview The switchboard operator is primarily responsible for communication hospital switchboard and answering service to relay incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls. Assists in monitoring security monitors and alarms. Operates communication systems, such as telephone, switchboard, intercom, two-way radio, or public address. Answers incoming calls, greets callers, provides information, transfers calls, and/or takes messages as necessary. Route emergency traffic appropriately. Pages individuals to inform them of telephone calls using paging equipment. Performs clerical duties as needed. Monitors alarm systems and contacts security staff members when necessary.
